Songwriting is a Skill

Regardless of what most people believe, songwriting is a skill that can be learned. Anyone can learn how to write original songs. But there aren't many places to learn how to write GOOD songs. There are two reasons for this.

First of all, most songwriters can't (or won't) teach you how they write songs. Because most songwriters write their songs intuitively, so they have no idea about the process, they just write "what sounds good".

Secondly, most music teachers and musicians don't know how to write good songs. Playing other people's songs and writing our own songs require two completely different skillsets. There are many highly qualified musicians but there aren't many good songwriters out there.

But I'm here to tell you, I can teach you how to write good songs! No matter what your current level is, I can teach you the most essential things you need in order to write songs that you, and other people will like.

Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.

Victor Hugo

Hi, I’m Tamas

I started to self-educate myself about music when I was 7 years old. We had a piano at home and I played the songs on it with one finger just by listening to the melodies. Since then, I have spent the past 31 years studying music (and I still self-educate myself today,  still learning new things).

I have graduated from the music conservatory in Budapest, studied classical music, jazz music, music theory, and Cuban music. I'm the producer-songwriter of the band Barrio Latino Hungría.

I wrote my first original song in 2014 and competed with it at the world's biggest songwriting competition amongst 80,000 songwriters from around the world. I was a finalist with this very first song, which means that it was better than 98% of the songs in the competition.

Since then, I have spent the past 6 years studying pop songs, and how successful songwriters create their music, including people like Max Martin, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Adele, and many others. Now, I have a whole "toolbox" for songwriters that can be used to write effective and catchy songs.

Frequently Asked Questions

"Do I Need To Know How To Play An Instrument?"

No, you don't need to know how to play an instrument in order to write songs. However, you can learn to play some basic chords on a keyboard really fast, and this can help your songwriting process.

"Do I need to know how to read sheet music?"

No, you don't need to know how to read sheet music in order to write songs. However, understanding music visually can be extremely helpful, and it speeds up your learning pace.

"How long does it take to learn songwriting?"

It depends on many different things. It depends on your current skills, your current level of understanding music, the time you dedicate to practice songwriting, and other things. For example, if you already know music theory, it will take less time for you to start writing your first songs. But ultimately, a songwriter can learn forever. I'm studying music for 31 years now, but I still learn new things today. Today, I write better songs than last year.

"How do we start?"

Once you have paid for your lessons through this website, I will ask you a few questions about yourself so I can get to know you better. This way I can personalize the lessons to your skills and goals. After that, we will schedule the date for the weekly lessons.
